Hunter S. Thompson died a few months ago. Apparently the only way they could tell was that he stopped writing and asking for drugs.
Unfortunately, before he stopped making bizarre requests, he did leave some thoughts about how he wanted to be remembered...

I've often thought if I were gravely ill that it would be very difficult not to just end my own suffering if it were possible. I think more people than we know try to end it early, they're just more discrete. There are things you can do to hurry your demise if your health is fragile, but it won't look like outright suicide to those around you.
