I've seen a lot of television series conclude. The best so far was probably Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Oh, I know, some of you who have been hanging around here lately are probably having a good laugh. Tough. It was a great show. Go back and watch a few episodes: it had substance. Behind all the make-up and martial arts and geeky mythology was a story about real human beings.
Its contemporary, The Sopranos, got a lot of press, and just about all the prestige. Don't get me wrong, that was a great show too.
But I really felt like I was saying good-bye to friends when Buffy ended. I was emotionally invested in each of them.
I've just watched the end of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. I can't let the moment pass without saying something. This was a very literate show. It was about all the big ideas: life, death, morality, God, good, evil, free will...
It's easy to flub the ending to a big story like that. So I was nervous when the show drew to a close.
They hit it perfectly.

Try to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo and not want to waste a bullet on you.
Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.
The most dangerous thing in the world is a Second Lieutenant with a map and a compass.
I think I've seen this t-shirt...

FUCKING STOP IT ALREADY!! Enough with the fake military shit. What do you posting posers know about killing and dying and snipers and war and fighting and real problems?
I have never been a soldier or marine or sailor or airman but I know alot of them and they sure don't sound like you wannabees.
Stop faking and join up or go to reconnectamerica.com to help those who have.
But please, STOP the ominous spooky scary been there done that quotes. The only thousand yard stare you project is a thousand yard stare on a bag of dicks.
I totally agree. I can't figure out what this anonymous poster is driving at with these pithy "quotes."

At least you are awake.
Didn't realize there were rules to what can be posted. I apologize to those who are all knowing, and generally impotent. Perhaps you could enhance the discussion with a view point, a personal observation or some random quote. Perhaps you could "fuel" the discussion. jrf posts some genuinely interesting topics. So how about jumping in the discussion instead of on my back and offer something more interesting than the quotes. I dare you.
Anon is correct. He is one of the ones, albeit an ungrateful one, that Mr. Orwell was talking about when he said...
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
Discussion is good. Quotes are good. Haters are good too. Sensative, Berkenstock sandal wearing, tree munching druids, however, are not. Keep up the quotes anon. FLY YOUR FREAK FLAG BABY!!!

Happy Easter to all jrf readers and posters.
Umm... well.
Look, I don't really have rules for posting here. But totally random quotes don't exactly provide me with useful feedback -- good or bad.
As I reconsider the layout and purpose of this blog, several of my real life friends have urged me to set the comment feature to allow only approved comments. I'm beginning to think this might be a worthwhile feature. I'd like to do away with totally anonymous comments. At a minimum, I'd like to make people use a consistent screen name.
Next thing you know you will want to post your real identity. Is there so much "quoting" that you are compelled to go to an approved comments only format? Does the angry dialogue scare people away? Where will you draw the line? Will you censor their thoughts or let it ride? Tis a good puzzle, good sir.
It's your blog party and you'll censor if you want to..
@anonymouser--
I'm sure you'll get over it.
Thank you for playing our game...
